Von Meck Palace, Brailiv
The von Meck estate, bought in 1868, where Pyotr Tchaikovsky stayed five times.
The palace and park complex in Brailiv stands on the bank of the river Riv. In 1868 the railway magnate Karl von Meck bought the estate from Felicjan Jukowski; according to the website of the Vinnytsia Regional Museum of Local History, the palace was built “soon” after the purchase, according to “20 Khvylyn” and Zhmerynka.City, in 1868. The two-storey palace is in the classicist style, and the park with ponds and little bridges was laid out by the owner's wife, Nadezhda von Meck. At her invitation the composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky stayed in Brailiv five times in 1878–1880 — according to “20 Khvylyn”, in the hostess's absence. The left wing of the palace holds the Tchaikovsky and von Meck Museum, a branch of the regional museum of local history: a public museum from 1979, a state one from 1991; the rest of the building houses the Brailiv Vocational Lyceum. The collection numbers almost 2,000 items, among them furniture and musical instruments handed over by von Meck's descendants; according to the regional museum's website, the exhibition is closed for re-display.
The museum is in the left wing of the palace; according to the regional museum's website, the exhibition is closed for re-display (no date given) — call before your trip: 097 398 65 32.
