St Paraskeva Piatnytsia Church, Chernihiv

openas of 2026-09-301100Sivershchyna

A pre-Mongol tower-like church of the late 12th century, rebuilt in 1962 after its destruction in 1943.

The Piatnytska Church was built in the late 12th – early 13th century; its construction is attributed to the master builder Petro Mylonih. The four-pier cross-domed church had an original plan of 12.3 by 11.3 metres. On 25 September 1943 the church was destroyed by the blast wave of an aerial bomb, and its restoration to a design by Petro Baranovsky and Mykola Kholostenko was completed in 1962. The church is part of the National Reserve “Ancient Chernihiv” and belongs to a community of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. On 19 August 2023 a russian missile that hit the neighbouring drama theatre blew out the church's windows and doors and damaged icons.

3 Hetmana Polubotka Street — the park by Krasna Square, next to the drama theatre; reserve tel. +380 462 972 721. A working OCU church, admission free during services; there is no separate price in the reserve's price list (13.07.2026). Air alerts and drone falls continue in Chernihiv (Suspilne, 22.09.2026).
