Grocholski-Tereshchenko Palace, Chervone
A neo-Gothic palace of 1851 where Fedir Tereshchenko opened an aircraft workshop in 1909.
The palace was built in 1851 for Count Adolf Grocholski; his widow sold the estate to the Tereshchenkos. Behind the wall lie 58 hectares with lakes and a park; the palace had 50 bedrooms, marble staircases and a theatre added by Fedir Fedorovych Tereshchenko. In 1870 the Tereshchenkos founded a sugar factory here, and in 1909 Fedir Tereshchenko opened an aircraft workshop on the estate — on the eve of the First World War Chervone was producing two aeroplanes a month. In 1927 the palace burned, in 1946 it was restored, until 1991 it housed a vocational school, and from 1999 part of it was occupied by a convent. In 2023 a court returned the estate to the state; emergency conservation works are under way.
The palace has been returned to state ownership and transferred to the Korostyshiv Vocational Agrarian Lyceum (Ukrinform, 19.11.2024); part of the building was previously occupied by a UOC (MP) convent. The building is neglected (Telegraf, 26.01.2025), and whether visitors are let inside is unknown: view it from outside or make arrangements in advance. The road from Kyiv via Kodnia is bad.
