The building where a seminary for Ukrainians from the displaced persons camps opened in 1948.

After the Second World War Ukrainians from the displaced persons camps came to the Netherlands — many Galicians were directed to the reconstruction work; by the end of 1947 there were about a thousand Ukrainians of the Eastern rite in the country. The Dutch Catholic Church fitted out a separate wing for them in the centre of the Augustinian fathers in Culemborg, housed in the building of a former minor seminary of 1857. The Ukrainian seminary opened on 21 June 1948; the next day the newspaper De Tijd wrote of an institution "for 60 student priests and their professors". It was from here that in 1951 the conductor Myroslav Antonovych founded the Utrecht Byzantine Choir of Dutch singers — an ensemble that preserved in the West the tradition of Ukrainian Greek Catholic church singing, and which Antonovych directed for forty years.
