One of the largest surviving Jewish necropolises in Europe: 14 ha and more than 50 thousand burials since 1866.

The cemetery was founded in 1866 by decision of the municipality on an area of about 14 hectares. More than 50 thousand residents of the city are buried here in 137 sections, among them the first Jewish mayor Eduard Reiss and the poet Eliezer Steinbarg. In 1905, to a design by the architect Funkel, a ceremonial building with a morgue, a hall, an office and a ritual shop was erected at the entrance. On the grounds are mass graves of the victims of the Holocaust of 1941. Since 1995 the cemetery has been part of a historical and cultural reserve. After a landslide in 2025 the community is building a retaining wall on the Zelena Street side.
