Museum of Folk Architecture and Life, Chernivtsi
An open-air museum above the Prut: 35 relocated buildings of an 18th–20th-century Bukovynian village.
The open-air museum was founded in 1977, and the first section of the exhibition opened to visitors in July 1986. On nine hectares two village streets have been recreated, with five peasant homesteads, a church, a bell tower, a tavern and a smithy. 35 architectural objects have been moved here from various corners of the region and re-erected, among them the wooden Church of St Nicholas of 1810 from Drachyntsi and a bell tower of 1786 from Berehomet. The collections hold more than ten thousand ethnographic items. Every year the festival “From Christmas to Epiphany” is held here.
