Yavornytsky Memorial House Museum, Dnipro
The house where Dmytro Yavornytsky, the researcher of the Zaporozhian Cossacks, lived and worked for 35 years; now a memorial museum with interiors of the 1930s.
The memorial house museum stands on Taras Shevchenko Square, about 600 metres from the main building of the Yavornytsky Dnipropetrovsk National Historical Museum, of which it is a branch. Academician Dmytro Yavornytsky — a researcher of the history of the Zaporozhian Cossacks who headed the city's history museum for more than three decades — lived and worked in this house for 35 years. According to travels.in.ua, the house was built in 1905 to a design by the architect Leonid Brodnytsky; it is a brick building with a belvedere and a carved wooden veranda, and the memorial museum opened here in 1988. The vestibule, hallway, dining room, drawing room, study and mezzanine have been recreated as they were in the 1930s, in the scholar's lifetime; one more room is given over to exhibitions. Among the exhibits are school exercise books, notebooks, documents, letters, photographs and paintings, as well as Yavornytsky's embroidered shirt, walking stick and glasses. Beside the house grow a pine and a poplar which, according to travels.in.ua, the scholar planted himself.
