Ukraine's only private astronomical observatory: more than 300 asteroids discovered.

The observatory was founded on 12 April 2001 by the astronomer Yurii Ivashchenko; it holds Minor Planet Center code A50 and to this day remains the only private one in Ukraine. Its main instrument is a 60-centimetre Zeiss-600 reflector under an eight-metre, six-tonne dome. In 2003 seven asteroids unknown to science were detected here, and in total the observatory has discovered more than 300 of them — according to the Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration as of 2026. Among the named minor planets are Zhytomyr, Radomyshl, Berdychiv, Korostyshiv and Andrushivka. The observatory stands in the village of Halchyn near Andrushivka, not in the Tereshchenko palace, as is often written.

Tours by arrangement; there are no visitor opening hours. Observatorna Street, Halchyn.
