Halych Castle
Ruins of the Starosta castle above the Dnister — the watch of ancient Halych.
The castle hill above Halych has been fortified since at least the 14th century, and the hillfort here is far older. The stone Starosta castle was wrecked repeatedly by Turkish and Tatar campaigns; a tower and wall fragments survive, opening the whole Dnister valley. This is the main entry point of the "Ancient Halych" national reserve.
Mon–Thu and Sat–Sun 09:00–18:00, Fri 09:00–17:00 (2025); in the cold season (average daily temperature of +10 °C and below) no visitors are admitted. The slopes are steep and slippery after rain.
