A surviving fragment of the Stanyslaviv fortress, built in five months.

Stanyslaviv was laid out as a fortress town: the fortifications were initiated by the town's founder, Andrzej Potocki, and designed by François Corassini of Avignon. According to ZAXID, construction began in 1661 and took five months; the tourist portal of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Military Administration dates the start of work to 1662. The fortress withstood the Turkish siege of 1672; in 1679–1682 and 1734–1750 the wooden fortifications were replaced with brick and stone. After Galicia was annexed to the Habsburg Monarchy in 1772, the fortress lost its defensive value: the walls were demolished, the moats filled in, and the ramparts were dismantled until 1870. Only a fragment of the brick wall survived, at the corner of Novhorodska and Belvederska streets; its restoration was completed in 2012, while the longer face along Novhorodska Street was rebuilt from scratch in 2007–2012. Today it houses the “Bastion” fortress gallery with souvenir shops, cafés and a restaurant; in 2016 the renovated Fortress Lane was opened.

An open space; the gallery inside keeps its own hours. On 13.09.2026 russia attacked Ivano-Frankivsk with drones: a residential building and an industrial facility were damaged, and one person was injured (Suspilne Ivano-Frankivsk, 13.09.2026).
