Potocki Palace, Ivano-Frankivsk
The palace of the city's founders, 1672–1682, with a ceremonial gate.
The masonry palace was built on the site of the Potockis' wooden residence in 1672–1682 for the owner of Stanyslaviv, Field Crown Hetman Andrzej Potocki; the ESU names 1682 as the year construction was completed. It was Andrzej Potocki who granted Magdeburg rights to the fortress and settlement in 1662. In 1801 the last Potocki owner went bankrupt, the Austrians dismantled the fortifications, and from 1804 to 2004 the palace was a military hospital. Of the palace interiors, researchers have found remains of polychromy, an alabaster column from a fireplace and vaults, and in 2024 the original castle wall, 2 m thick. After 2004 the complex was privately owned and fell into decay; since 2017 it has been municipal property. The ceremonial entrance gate with figures of knights was restored in 2013; ZAXID.NET dates it to the 19th century, pik.net.ua to roughly the mid-18th. On 8 May 2024 the digital museum “City and Weapons” opened in one of the buildings.
The “City and Weapons” museum and the congress hall are open; the main palace building is in an unsafe condition, and the other buildings are at the design stage (ZAXID.NET, 29.01.2026).
