Kachanivka Estate
The Tarnovsky estate where Shevchenko, Gogol and Glinka were guests.
The estate was begun in 1770 by Petro Rumiantsev-Zadunaisky; from 1824 it belonged to the Tarnovskys, under whom Kachanivka became the artistic house of the Left Bank: Shevchenko, Gogol, Kulish and Repin stayed here, and Glinka wrote music in the summerhouse. The palace, wings, St George's church and a park of five hundred sixty hectares — a reserve since 1981. Shevchenko came here three times: in May 1843 he brought "Kateryna" from Petersburg for the owner Hryhorii Tarnovsky, in January 1844 he arrived from Yahotyn with a copy of the Repnin portrait, and on 21 August 1859 he left his last entry in the hosts' album.
Mon is a cleaning day; Tue–Fri 8:00–17:00, Sat–Sun and holidays 10:00–18:00 (2026). Separate tickets for the palace and the grounds; the park is vast — allow time for a walk.
