Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Assumption, Kharkiv
A neo-Gothic Roman Catholic cathedral of 1887–1892, the seat of the Diocese of Kharkiv-Zaporizhzhia.
The church on Hoholia Street was built in 1887–1892 to a design by the city engineer Bolesław Michałowski; the foundation stone was consecrated on 29 April 1887. It is a neo-Gothic basilica of red brick with a tall bell tower topped by a spire. The community's previous church was consecrated on 1 October 1832. In 1940 the church was closed and handed to the Shevchenko Theatre, and in 1945 it was closed again. In 1991 the building was returned to the community, and after the bull of John Paul II of 4 May 2002 it became the cathedral of the Diocese of Kharkiv-Zaporizhzhia. On 1 March 2022 a missile hit the curia building, damaging the roof and glazing.
