A writers' cooperative of 1930 from which the residents of 40 of its 66 flats were repressed.

The five-storey building, shaped like the Cyrillic letter "С" and holding 66 flats, was built in the late 1920s to a design by Mykhailo Dashkevych and occupied in 1930. From 1933 to 1938 more than 70 residents were repressed, 11 of them shot at Sandarmokh; the first to be arrested, in 1933, was Mykhailo Yalovyi. Mykola Khvylovy, Les Kurbas, Ostap Vyshnia, Yurii Smolych and Mykola Trublaini lived here; Ivan Bahrianyi called the building a "crematorium". In 2003 a memorial plaque with the names was unveiled on the façade. On 7 March 2022 a russian shell damaged the façade and blew out the windows — Serhii Zhadan bore witness to this; in May 2024 the windows were blown out again. Since spring 2023 the Slovo literary residency has been working in Petro Lisovyi's flat; its first resident was Victoria Amelina.

9 Kultury Street — a residential building, so it can only be viewed from outside; in early March 2022 the building was seriously damaged by a russian missile (UNIAN, 17.01.2026). Kharkiv is regularly attacked: on 28.09.2026 a strike on an apartment block injured 22 people (ArmyInform, 28.09.2026), and on 30.09.2026 a drone hit a shopping centre (Slovo i Dilo, 30.09.2026), so during an alert go to a shelter.
