A museum in the former city hall, from which the occupiers removed over 10,000 works in the autumn of 2022.

The museum opened on 27 May 1978 in the former city hall — an architectural monument of the early 20th century. Before the full-scale invasion the collection held over 13,000 works according to the HUR register and over 14,000 according to the museum itself: Ukrainian and foreign painting, graphics, sculpture, the largest collection of Oleksii Shovkunenko. From 31 October to 4 November 2022, before retreating from Kherson, russian occupiers removed over 10,000 of the most valuable exhibits (the Prosecutor General's Office — over 10,223; the museum — almost 11,000) to Crimea, to the Central Museum of Tavrida in Simferopol. In February 2026 two organisers of the removal were notified of suspicion of a war crime. The museum works online and shows what was saved at exhibitions in Kyiv.

Kherson is under shelling: the museum is closed to visitors and the building is damaged; check the security situation before travelling to the city.
