Rock cells and a spring above the Dniester — a "second Athos", as Kuksha of Odesa called it.

According to the inscription on the bell-tower door, the masonry monastery was built by Teodor Pryda in 1765, while a stone grave cross of 1740 and stories of monks from the Maniava Skete point to an older history. In 1783 Joseph II closed the house during secularisation; on 8 May 1933 it was declared a monastery again and on 5 July 1936 consecrated as restored. Under Soviet rule the monastery was closed, the monks moved to Pochaiv and the complex turned into a holiday base; it was returned to the faithful around 1989–1991, and the Annunciation Cathedral was built in 1991–1998. The monastery is famed for its spring and the cell-caves hewn into the rock above the Dniester.

The monastery is on the right bank of the Dniester a few kilometres from the village, opposite Zalishchyky. Entry to the grounds is free; on the feast of St John the Theologian a 50-kilometre procession walks here from Chernivtsi.
