Old Village Open-Air Museum, Kolochava
The first village museum of architecture and everyday life in Transcarpathia, opened in Kolochava in 2007.
The Old Village open-air museum opened on 14 June 2007; its initiator was the local patron Stanislav Arzhevitin. It is the first village museum of architecture and everyday life in Transcarpathia, presenting the 300-year history of the everyday life of the Verkhovyna highlanders. There are about two dozen residential and farm buildings, among them a school from the time of Austria-Hungary and a Hungarian gendarmerie building. The grounds also hold the Museum of the Carpathian Narrow-Gauge Railway and a reconstructed UPA bunker of Mykhailo Shtaier, and nearby is the raftsman exhibition “Kolochava Bokorash”. In October 2025 UN Tourism included Kolochava in the list of Best Tourism Villages 2025.
