Museum of Hutsulshchyna and Pokuttia, Kolomyia
The oldest museum of the region, founded 1926: over fifty thousand objects.
The Yosafat Kobrynsky national museum of the folk art of Hutsulshchyna and Pokuttia was founded in 1926 and opened to the public in 1934. Carving, Kosiv and Pistyn ceramics, lizhnyk blankets, dress, brasswork and weapons — over fifty thousand objects. Together with the Pysanka Museum a hundred metres away, this is the fullest gathering of two neighbouring but different cultures: the mountain Hutsul one and the lowland Pokuttia one. How the Hutsuls carolled at the start of the 20th century was described for Volodymyr Hnatiuk’s “Christmas Carols and New Year Songs” (1914) by Petro Shekeryk-Donykiv of Holovy.
Tue–Sun 10:00–18:00, closed Mon (2026). 25 Teatralna Street. Nearby is the Pysanka Museum (43B Chornovola Avenue), which is part of the same museum.
