House with Chimaeras, Kyiv
Władysław Horodecki’s apartment house with concrete beasts and chimaeras — now the presidential residence for official ceremonies.
The architect Władysław Horodecki built the house above Bankova Street in 1901–1903 (Telegraf; en.wikipedia gives 1901–1902). The facades and interiors were decorated with concrete animals, fish and chimaeras; sources link the sculpture to Elio Sala (Telegraf; en.wikipedia — Emilio Sala). Since 2005 the house has been the official residence of the President of Ukraine for state and diplomatic ceremonies (en.wikipedia). Tours used to be held by prior booking on days without receptions of delegations; now, according to Telegraf (3 June 2025), “it is not so easy to get in”.
10 Bankova St, government quarter (en.wikipedia). Presidential residence — no free entry.
