Church of Sts Michael and Dominic, Liubar
A Dominican church of 1752 in a town mentioned since 1150.
The Dominicans were settled in Liubar by Prince Stanisław Lubomirski in 1634; the first church was destroyed by Cossacks in the mid-17th century, and the present stone church of 1752 was built by Franciszek Ferdynand Lubomirski. In 1864 the monastery was closed and the church became parochial; under Soviet rule it was shut. In the Second World War a bomb destroyed the roof and the cellar was used as a prison; in 1990 the church was returned to the community and repaired. The town itself is mentioned under the name Bolokhiv from 1150, and in 1440 as Lubartów; nothing survives of Prince Lubart's fortifications. In the 18th century a Basilian school for about 400 pupils operated here.
