The castle of Lithuanian prince Lubart, the heart of old Lutsk.

Built in the 14th century by Lubart Gediminovich, the last grand prince of the Galician-Volhynian state. In 1429 monarchs of half of Europe gathered here for the congress convened by Vytautas. The entrance tower is one of Ukraine's most recognisable silhouettes: it is the one on the 200-hryvnia banknote. In Lutsk, the town that grew up around this castle, the Kosach family lived from 1879 to 1881: nine-year-old Lesia Ukrainka wrote her first poem, “Hope”, here, and at Epiphany 1881 she caught a chill — the start of the tuberculosis she lived with for the rest of her life. The house at 23 Kafedralna Street, where the Kosaches stayed in 1890–1891, is now the museum Lesia's Drawing Room.

1A Kafedralna Street; on 12.09.2026 russian drones attacked the railway in Lutsk (Suspilne Lutsk, 12.09.2026). In summer daily 10:00–19:00 (Espreso.Zakhid, 20.04.2026), while in 2025 the castle was open 10:00–17:00 from 1 October (Konkurent, 01.10.2025) — check the autumn 2026 hours. A single ticket costs 100 UAH, 50 UAH for children, and opens the main route with the defensive galleries up to the entrance tower (Espreso.Zakhid, 20.04.2026); a guided tour is 100 UAH per person (Misto.Media, 21.05.2026).
