A railway hub liberated on 1 October 2022 and still on the front line.

Lyman is a junction of five railway lines, and that is why it was fought over twice. In 2014 the town, then still Krasnyi Lyman, was occupied from 12 April to 4 June. It was taken a second time at the end of May 2022, and on 1 October that year it was liberated — the beginning of the autumn liberation of the Donetsk region; from here Ukrainian forces went into the Serebrianskyi forest towards Kreminna. The price: of 236 apartment blocks fifteen were declared beyond repair and another 221 damaged; of about 22,000 private houses 21,000 were hit. Before the great war some 43,000 people lived in the community, today fewer than ten thousand. The town remains on the front line.

Lyman is on the front line: fighting is under way in the area of the town itself (Suspilne Donbas, 30.09.2026), the community cannot be entered, and evacuation is possible only on foot (Ukrinform, 25.06.2026). Do not plan trips here.
