Maidanetske Settlement
A proto-city of the first half of the 4th millennium BC: about 2,000 buildings.
One of the largest Eneolithic settlements in Europe: about two thousand buildings housing 6,000–10,000 people, two-storey dwelling-and-household complexes and fortifications. The 1971–1991 excavations were led by Mykhailo Shmahlii, Kostiantyn Zinkivskyi, Serhii Ryzhov, Mykhailo Videiko and Nataliia Burdo; in 2011–2013 joint Ukrainian-German expeditions worked here. As at Talianky, what you look at is not the ground but the plan the archaeologists drew.
A field beside the village; nothing is visible on the surface. The nearest museum is in the “Trypillia Culture” reserve at Lehedzyne, to which the Maidanetske settlement also belongs. The reserve is open: on 12.09.2026 it hosted the “Trypillia Toloka” with a tour of the exhibition and the excavations (VIKKA, 11.09.2026).
