openas of 2026-10-01Zakarpattia

A natural arch in the limestone Chur rock amid the primeval beech forests of the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve.

The Karst Bridge, or Stone Gate, is a natural arch in the limestone Chur rock at an altitude of about 800 m above sea level. The arch was formed by karst processes; the rock seems to stand on three "legs", and an adult can walk beneath it freely. It lies in the Uholka–Shyrokyi Luh massif of the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve, whose primeval beech forests were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2007. According to the reserve, about 500 years ago there was a pagan sanctuary of the sun here. The reserve's trail "Through the Primeval Beech Forests of Mala Uholka" leads to the arch; it passes the Druzhba karst cave, now closed to visitors.

The reserve's trail starts by the building of the Uholka forestry office; the reserve lists it as 3.5 km and about 2 hours, although according to the description on the same page the arch lies about 2.5 km from the start (kbz.in.ua, 2026). The longer option from the administration building takes about 4 hours with a height difference of about 450 m (zakarpattya.net.ua, 16.02.2026). Check the visiting rules with the reserve: (03132) 2-68-93.
