Medzhybizh Fortress
The white fortress between the Buh and Buzhok, the Sieniawski residence.
Medzhybizh stands where the Buzhok flows into the Southern Buh; as the town of Mezhybozhe it is mentioned in the Hypatian Chronicle under the year 1146. The first stone castle was built here in the 14th century, under the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. From 1540 the town belonged to the Sieniawskis: Hetman Mikolaj Sieniawski thoroughly rebuilt the castle and set up a residence with a palace in it; later the Czartoryskis became its owners — according to the ESU from 1731, according to castles.com.ua from 1730. Today there are the pentagonal Knights' Tower and the Officers' Tower, walls in the shape of an elongated triangle 130 metres long, a palace with Renaissance additions and the castle church; in January 2015 a side wall of the palace collapsed. On 19 August 2023 the blast wave from a russian Shahed attack damaged the windows and doors of the museum and the roof of the Knights' Tower. In 1740–1760 the Baal Shem Tov, founder of Hasidism, lived in the town; every year Hasidim from all over the world come to his grave.
