Shevchenko Museum-Homestead, Moryntsi
The poet's birthplace: two re-created cottages and a storehouse over a hundred years old.
Taras was born here on 9 March 1814. No authentic building has survived: the homestead was re-created in 1989 for the 175th anniversary, and the museum's own portal calls it exactly that — a re-creation. The only genuine thing here is the wooden storehouse, moved from Shevchenkove. There are two cottages, and sources differ between them: in Yakym Boiko's cottage the poet's mother Kateryna was born, while the museum names as Taras's own birthplace the cottage of Andrii Kopii, which the family rented. The first museum on this site opened in 1964.
Daily 9:00–17:00 (2026); tours by phone: 096 291 32 22. A department of the “Homeland of Taras Shevchenko” reserve; the main exhibition in neighbouring Shevchenkove has been packed away for the duration of the war.
