Here in 1768 Zalizniak consecrated the weapons of the Koliivshchyna, and in 1918 the Kholodnyi Yar Republic arose.

In the autumn of 1767 a group of Cossacks under Yosyp Shelest settled in the monastery in the guise of novices; Maksym Zalizniak was a novice of the monastery and on 26 May 1768 by the old style consecrated weapons here, launching the Koliivshchyna. The uprising was crushed by punitive detachments of the russian empire, which also attacked the monastery; isolated fighting in the forests went on until the end of the year. In 1918 the insurgent movement of the Chuchupak brothers arose around the monastery — the Kholodnyi Yar Republic of 25 villages with a 15,000-strong peasant army; after Vasyl Chuchupak's death on 12 April 1920 it was led by Ivan Derkach, and in 1922 the Bolsheviks lured the otamans into an ambush by deceit. The monastery is known from the second half of the 16th century; the stone Trinity Church of 1805 is a monument of national significance; Shevchenko painted it in 1845, the Soviet authorities closed the monastery in 1929, and it was restored in 1991. Nearby stand Zalizniak's Oak, about a thousand years old, and the Haidamaka Pond.

Village of Melnyky, Kholodnyi Yar tract. Daily 8:00–19:00; the monastery belongs to the UOC (MP), dress code, photography only by permission.
