openas of 2026-09-301624Podillia

A Baroque Dominican shrine of the 17th–18th centuries with a miracle-working icon; it remained open even in Soviet times.

The Dominicans were invited to Murafa by Jadwiga Jazłowiecka-Bełżecka; the founding of the monastery is dated to 1624, or by other sources to 1627. The masonry church of the Immaculate Conception was built in 1786–1791 at the expense of Joachim Karol Potocki, who was buried in the crypt beneath the church. Of the monastery there survive the north-eastern hexagonal tower and the two-storey building of the cells. The stained glass was made in Warsaw in 1895, and the organ by the master Hesse of Vienna is dated to about 1870. The church was not closed for almost the whole of the Soviet period. On 15 August 2022 Bishop Leon Dubrawski proclaimed the church a sanctuary of Our Lady of Murafa.
