Shyshkovi Hills, Nahoriany
Limestone outlier hills, remnants of an ancient reef of the Sarmatian Sea, above the right bank of the Dnister.
The Shyshkovi Hills rise above the right bank of the Dnister near the village of Nahoriany. They are three cone-shaped hills 15–20 m high, which local people call Did, Baba and Onuchka. They are considered remnants of a coral barrier reef of the Sarmatian Sea, and the Tovtry, of which they are a part, formed more than 10–12 million years ago. The natural tract of about 12 ha became a reserve of local significance in 1979. A chapel of St George has been set up here. On 1 October 2026 it was reported that the first audio guide in the Khotyn National Nature Park, with five stops, had started working on the “Shyshkovi Hills” eco-trail.
The eastern outskirts of the village of Nahoriany, Dnistrovskyi (formerly Kelmentsi) district, about 100 km from Chernivtsi (andy-travel, 08.10.2024; Telegraf, 16.08.2025).
