Nova Kakhovka
A city beside the Kakhovka dam, whose reservoir vanished in 2023.
Nova Kakhovka was built in the 1950s together with the Kakhovka hydroelectric station; it was planned as a model town with mosaics, parks and an embankment. On 6 June 2023 the dam was blown up — the Kakhovka reservoir disappeared within days, causing the greatest man-made disaster of the full-scale war and flooding dozens of villages downstream.
Temporarily occupied since 2022. The Kakhovka dam was destroyed in 2023.
