National Art Museum, Odesa
A palace of the 1820s, home since 1899 to an art museum with a collection of over 10 thousand works.
The palace at 5a Sofiivska Street was built in 1824–1828, although travels.in.ua dates its construction to 1823–1826. It was commissioned by Countess Olga Naryshkina, daughter of Stanisław and Zofia Potocki. In 1888 the palace was bought by the city mayor Hryhorii Marazli, who in 1892 handed it over to the city for a museum. The museum opened on 24 October 1899; its collection holds over 10 thousand works, and beneath the palace there is an underground grotto. On 5 November 2023 the blast wave from a russian missile blew out all the windows and damaged the entrance and the facade, and in December 2023 the museum reopened.
