St Nicholas Church, Olevsk
A fortified church of 1596 with two-metre walls — the oldest building in the Zhytomyr region.
The masonry church was built in 1596 and is considered the oldest religious building of the region; the Nemyrych nobles are named as its founders. It is a classic fortified church: walls about two metres thick and narrow loophole windows. Originally it was single-domed in Gothic forms, and in 1864 four decorative pseudo-baroque domes were added around the main one, making the church five-domed. A stone grave cross with a Latin inscription and the date 1618 is built into the wall; in 2007 the tradition of mosaic images in the niches was revived.
6 Sviato-Mykolaivska Street, near Soborna Square; the church is active — keep quiet during services. In May 2026 Olevsk was hit by a drone attack — heed the alerts.
