Zygmunt Gorgolewski's theatre of 1897–1900 over the former bed of the Poltva.

The competition of 1895 was won by Zygmunt Gorgolewski's design under the motto "Ludendo monet"; construction began on 5 June 1897 over the former bed of the Poltva, and on 4 October 1900 the City Theatre opened with Zelenski's opera "Janek". A hall for 1100 spectators, four tiers in the shape of a lyre, Henryk Siemiradzki's curtain "Parnassus" and 2800 electric lamps — at the time the most modern stage in Halychyna. The attic is crowned by the bronze figures of Glory, the Genius of Drama and Music by Popiel, Baracz and Viitovych. Since 2000 the theatre has borne the name of Solomiia Krushelnytska, and since 2005 it has been national. In September 2026 a tender of 73.2 million UAH was announced for modernising the stage — over 300 stage blocks and 40 km of wiring, with completion by the end of the year.

Interiors with a performance; the theatre admits visitors no earlier than 45 minutes before the start, and the hall after the first bell (theatre website, 13.05.2024). During an alert the audience goes to the theatre's shelter; if the alert lasts less than an hour, the performance continues (theatre website, 13.05.2024).
