Parkhomivka Art Museum
Picasso, Malevich and Shevchenko in a village museum assembled by a school teacher.
The museum was founded in 1955 by the village history teacher Panas Luniov on the basis of a school club, collecting works of art on his own modest salary; in 1986 it became a department of the Kharkiv Art Museum. The collection holds over 7,500 items: Picasso's Dove of Peace and portrait of Frédéric Joliot-Curie, passed on through Ilya Ehrenburg, works by Malevich, Kandinsky and Repin, and drawings by Taras Shevchenko. The museum occupies a two-storey 18th-century palazzo — the former estate of Count Podgoričani. Kazimir Malevich's father worked as a sugar-maker in Parkhomivka in the 1890s, and the future artist lived here for several years.
The Kharkiv Art Museum, to which the department belongs, works online only; the Bohodukhiv district is under drone strikes. Pre-war hours 9:00–17:00, closed Mon–Tue — phone before travelling.
