Oleksa Dovbush Museum, Pechenizhyn
A museum of history and local lore in Pechenizhyn, the birthplace of the opryshky leader Oleksa Dovbush; a branch of the regional museum of local history.
The Oleksa Dovbush Museum opened in 1971 in Pechenizhyn, the birthplace of the legendary leader of the opryshky. In 1980 its building became unusable, and the museum was moved to the settlement's house of culture, where it occupied two rooms. In 2004, by decision of the regional council, the O. Dovbush Museum of History and Local Lore was created on the basis of the community museum; since then the exhibition has occupied four rooms of a former consumer services building next to St Michael's Church. Today it is a branch of the Ivano-Frankivsk Museum of Local History. Part of the material was donated by Professor Volodymyr Hrabovetsky, a native of Pechenizhyn and a researcher of the opryshky movement. The exhibits, display stands and copies of paintings and sculptures in the largest room are devoted to the theme “The Opryshky Movement. Oleksa Dovbush — the Best-Known Opryshky Leader”: according to ifkm.if.ua, in the late 1730s and the first half of the 1740s Dovbush led the anti-feudal struggle of the opryshky in Prykarpattia. Separate halls display tools, household items, clothing and footwear. According to kl.informator.ua (2022), the museum's pride is a wide cheres belt which, according to old residents' accounts, belonged to the opryshok.
