Podebrady Castle
A castle on the Elbe where the Ukrainian Husbandry Academy worked.
In 1922–1935 the castle of Podebrady housed the Ukrainian Husbandry Academy — the polytechnic of the emigration, created with the support of Masaryk's Czechoslovakia. Thousands of Ukrainian students studied here, taught by professors whom war and Soviet power had stripped of their chairs at home. A memorial plaque on the castle recalls it.
The castle houses a memorial exhibition of King George of Poděbrady (Památník krále Jiřího z Poděbrad): Mon, Wed–Sun 9:00–17:00, closed Tue (Polabí Museum website, 22.09.2026). In summer 2025 the exhibition was temporarily closed because of an unsafe chimney above the entrance (Nymburský deník, 25.07.2025), so it is worth checking with the museum before you travel. From Prague main station it is 46–50 minutes by the R10 fast train (prahalove.cz, 17.09.2026).
