Pomoriany Castle
A neglected castle of which part of the wings survives.
The first written mentions of Pomoriany date from 1437. According to castles.com.ua, the castle was built in the first half of the 16th century by order of the Podolian voivode Jan of Sienno; “Espreso.Zakhid” writes that the castle took on its present form in the second half of the 16th century under the voivode Jan Sienieński. In 1619–1620 the estate was bought by Jakub Sobieski, and from 1661 it was owned by his son, the future King Jan III, who invested 25 thousand złoty in its rebuilding. In 1672 the castle was besieged by the Turks, and in 1675, during the second Turkish siege, part of it was destroyed. Later it was owned by the Radziwiłłs (from 1740), the Pruszyńskis (from 1789), who assembled an art collection, and the Potockis (from 1876 to 1939). In Soviet times it housed the district party committee and a vocational school; on 9 March 1974 the palace caught fire. On 12 April 2018 the wall of the eastern wing collapsed; according to “Espreso.Zakhid” (2024), the works supposedly begun in 2020 have not been completed because of the war.
