A residence of 1787–1790, the university's first building in 1918; damaged by a strike in March 2025.

The palace for Governor-General Potemkin was built in 1787–1790; its authorship is attributed to Ivan Starov, author of the master plan of Katerynoslav. The main façade is about 121 m long, and twelve columns support the landing of the upper floor. In the 1830s Nicholas I gave the building to the nobility; later it housed the provincial museum, and in 1918 the first teaching building of Katerynoslav University. After the war the palace was restored in 1952, and since 1961 it has been the Palace of Students. On the night of 27 March 2025 a massive attack damaged the roof and windows; as of May 2026 the building stands half-ruined, its windows boarded up with plywood.

1 Shevchenka Square, in Shevchenko Park. After a strike in March 2025 the palace is in a dangerous condition (2026) — view it only from outside and do not go inside.
