Residence of Metropolitans, Chernivtsi
A UNESCO site: the residence of Bukovynian metropolitans, now a university.
The ensemble was built in 1864–1882 by Czech architect Josef Hlavka, blending brick Gothic with Moorish and Byzantine motifs. Since 1875 Chernivtsi University has lived here, using the buildings almost exactly as intended — that integrity carried the ensemble onto the World Heritage list in 2011.
Under martial law, only with a guide. Tours start every hour at the university gates and last 45 minutes.
