Savur-Mohyla, Saurivka
A 277.9-metre height on the Donets Ridge that Ukrainian units fought for in August 2014.
Savur-Mohyla is a barrow-topped height of 277.9 metres on the Donets Ridge near Saurivka (Wikipedia; Radio Svoboda). Fierce fighting took place here in August 1943, and in the 1960s a memorial with a 36-metre obelisk and a soldier figure was built (Radio Svoboda); the Encyclopedia of Modern Ukraine gives 1967. In 2009 the complex became a monument of national importance (Radio Svoboda). In the summer of 2014 Ukrainian units took the height — Radio Svoboda gives 28 July, NV gives 7 August; on 21 August the obelisk fell under shelling, and at the end of August the defenders left the height on orders (NV; Radio Svoboda). On 8 September 2022 the occupiers opened a “restored” complex with pylons honouring “DPR” militants (Radio Svoboda).
The height is in occupied territory — no access.
