UPA Hideout in the Koroviak Tract, Sheshory
A UPA hideout near Sheshory, rebuilt in 2019, where three underground fighters died in 1953.
The hideout was rebuilt in the Koroviak tract near Sheshory, not far from the last UPA outpost, and consecrated on 15 September 2019. The reconstruction was initiated by the Union of ATO Participants of Kosiv District with the assistance of the Hutsulshchyna National Nature Park. The original hideout sheltered the OUN-UPA district propaganda chief Mykhailo Tkachuk ("Lebid"), his wife Emiliia and a member of the district leadership, Andrii Melnychuk ("Tsvirkun"). The hideout fell on 28 January 1953, the last one in the Kosiv district; the historian Vasyl Humeniuk dates the battle to 23 January. All three were killed, and MGB operatives took their bodies away and buried them in secret.
