Shevchenko Monument, Riga
A bronze monument 3.5 metres high in Kronvalda Park, next to the art museum.
The monument to Taras Shevchenko was unveiled on 6 November 2015 in Riga's Kronvalda Park, next to the Latvian National Museum of Art. Its author is the Ukrainian sculptor Ihor Hrechanyk, with Liudmyla Hrechanyk as designer; the sculpture is bronze and 3.5 metres high. The poet is shown as a young man — as he was when the "Kobzar" appeared. The installation was initiated by the Ukrainian community of Latvia, and 85,000 euros were raised in donations. Ukraine's prime minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and Latvia's prime minister Laimdota Straujuma attended the unveiling.
