Shevchenko Museum, Shevchenkove
The homestead the poet's father bought: his mother's grave, the sexton's cottage and a copy of the father's cottage.
The museum in Kerelivka opened in 1939, for the 125th anniversary of Shevchenko's birth, on the homestead his father bought in 1816. The father's cottage shown here is a copy of 1989: lightning destroyed the original at the end of the 19th century. The grave of the poet's mother, Kateryna Yakymivna, has survived on the grounds; beside it stands the cottage of the sexton who taught Taras his letters, and among the exhibits is furniture from the Engelhardt palace.
