Simferopol
The capital of Crimea, on the site of Scythian Neapolis.
Simferopol was founded in 1784 beside the ruins of Scythian Neapolis — capital of the late Scythian kingdom of the 3rd century BC. The Crimean Tatar drama theatre, the Crimean Tatar museum and the Gasprinsky library worked here. Since 2014 the city has been the centre of the occupation administration, and the Crimean Tatar community faces systematic persecution.
Temporarily occupied since 2014.
