Skadovsk
A port and resort town on Dzharylhach Bay, occupied by russian troops since March 2022.
Skadovsk was founded in 1894 as a sea landing stage on the lands of the landowner Serhii Skadovsky. According to the community's website, Skadovsky bought the estate in 1893, the first foreign ship moored on 7 July 1894, and the name “Skadovsk” was approved on 2 January 1896. At the beginning of the 20th century the town became a resort; its Central Alley was laid out by the founder himself. Eight kilometres from the town lies Dzharylhach — the largest island of Ukraine, a national nature park since 2009. On 9 March 2022 the town was seized by russian troops (according to the Honchar Library, on 12 March); on 16 March they took the mayor, Oleksandr Yakovliev, away from the city council and dispersed a peaceful rally with weapons and stun grenades. In May 2023 the occupiers filled the strait to Dzharylhach with sand and turned the island into a firing range, and in August more than 1500 hectares burned there. According to data from June 2026, the condition of the local history museum cannot be established.
Temporarily occupied since 2022.
