Ostrozky Castle, Starokostiantyniv

openas of 2026-09-301561Podillia

The 16th-century castle of Prince Ostrozky on the promontory between the Sluch and the Ikopot, now a historical and cultural centre-museum.

The castle was built in 1561–1571 for Prince Vasyl-Kostiantyn Ostrozky on the promontory at the confluence of the Sluch and Ikopot rivers. The complex included the princely palace, the Church of the Holy Trinity and a defensive tower, surrounded by a water-filled moat, an earthen rampart and walls. In 1618 the castle withstood a siege by a Tatar horde, and in 1648 it was taken by Khmelnytsky's Cossack army. In 1929 a state historical and cultural reserve was created here, abolished in 1954. Since 2013 the castle has housed the historical and cultural centre-museum “Old Kostiantyniv”, and the castle's Trinity Church belongs to the OCU.
