Transfiguration Cathedral, Sumy
A baroque cathedral of 1776–1788 — the main vertical of central Sumy.
The masonry Transfiguration Cathedral was built between 1776 and 1788; it stands on Soborna Street and sets the height of the town's historic core. Its present look with the bell tower took shape after a rebuilding at the end of the 19th century. The cathedral is a working see. On the night of 17 July 2026 a russian strike with guided aerial bombs on central Sumy blew out 35 of its windows — the windows of the drum beneath the central dome suffered worst, and the glass fell inward into the church.
Damaged on 17 July 2026; services continue. Sumy is under glide-bomb strikes — this is not a weekend trip.
