Svaliava Memorial Park
A memorial to the victims of Soviet deportations on the site of a transit camp set up in 1944.
The park lies on the site of one of the cemeteries of the Soviet camp set up in Svaliava in November 1944. Men of Hungarian and German nationality of conscription age from the whole region were ordered to be assembled here. The first stone was laid on 24 November 1990, and on 27 November 1994 the park, designed by the Uzhhorod architect Éva Asztalos, was opened together with a structure popularly called the Wailing Wall. In 2004 granite plaques with more than 5500 names were installed on it, and in 2008–2009 a chapel of the martyrs was built. According to reports from September 2026, more than 16 thousand names of deportees are engraved at the memorial.
