Ruins of the castle above chronicled Terebovlia, known since 1097.

Terebovlia is first mentioned in the chronicle under the year 1097, when the domain was assigned to Prince Vasylko Rostyslavych. The masonry fortress on Castle Hill was built under the Polish king Casimir III: according to “Espreso.Zakhid”, in 1346; according to an article by the “Castles of Ternopil Region” reserve, in 1360; according to castles.com.ua, in 1366. By 1625 the castle had fallen into ruin, and in 1631–1632 the starosta Oleksandr Balaban built a new stronghold for 9000 złoty. In 1675 it was defended by 80 soldiers, 200 townspeople and a few noblemen against the Turkish army of Ibrahim Shishman; the wife of the commandant Jan Samuel Chrzanowski, Anna Dorota, who is also called Zofia, became famous. After the Tatar raids of 1687–1688 the castle was not rebuilt again. Today the ruins of a pentagon with walls up to 5 metres thick stand above the Hnizna; since 2008 the castle has been part of this reserve, and in 2012 a monument to Zofia Chrzanowska was unveiled here.

The slopes are steep; wet stone is slippery.
