Holy Trinity Church, Vilnius
A monastery founded by Prince Kostiantyn Ostrozky; today a Ukrainian Greek Catholic parish.
The masonry church of the Holy Trinity was raised in 1514 at the expense of Prince Kostiantyn Ivanovych Ostrozky in thanks for a victory over the Muscovite army. From the end of the 16th century the complex became the main seat of the Order of St Basil the Great: Josaphat Kuntsevych spent 13 years of monastic life here, and the order's reformer Yosyf Veliamyn Rutsky worked here. The most valuable part of the ensemble is the Basilian Gate with its three-tier facade, built in 1761 in late baroque. Under russian and Soviet rule the monastery served as a prison, a seminary and later a university faculty. In 1991 the church was returned to the Greek Catholics: the first Liturgy took place on 7 July 1991.
Aušros Vartų g. 7B, Vilnius. The church of the Basilian Monastery is a cultural, religious and community centre of the Ukrainian diaspora in Lithuania (Ukrinform, 21.10.2025).
